As you all know- im not a fan of blogging about the big ‘chain’ restaurants in London.. But sometimes its just a bit convenient to rock up to a place after a few after work bevvies and not have to think about what you want to eat.
I must admit, Pizza Express has been that place for me- either for leaving lunches, welcome lunches, cheeky work lunches, and after pub dinners. But even a cat only has 9 lives.. After today i dont think ill be going back.
The waitress had attitude, she was too busy to hear our orders or share a smile..
My doughballs arrived only after the others had almost finished their starters..And then they turned up in a plate with a only 1/4 filled disposable tub of garlic butter- and even lacked the signature sprig of parsley on top! #firstworldproblems
Whilst I cannot speak for every branch in London.. The disappointing experience has been felt in London Bridge, Pinner, and Finchley Road. In fact in the London Bridge branch in December last year, I was there for team lunch and was almost finished eating with my pasta dish and I then I found a huge piece of chicken in my vegetarian dish!!!
Because of the proximity to my office, Ive had to get over it and today my pizza was yum! I enjoyed the Magherita Buffala on the Romana base and doused it with the jalapeño tabasco sauce! No complaints here… It all went down too easy with a bottle of white wine!
I couldnt finish my pizza- and so i asked for a doggy bag. I was given a small empty box, about 1/4 of size of my remaining pizza. So i cut it up myself and filled the slices on top of each other. Whilst I dont mind doing this myself, combined with the waitresses poor attitude I decided she can kiss goodbye to her service charge!
Remaining optimistic- it’s payday after all, so what the heck, we ordered 2 desserts amongst 4 of us….
…When dessert arrives… Only the honeycomb cheesecake arrives! Apparently the chocolate bombe type dessert has sold out..and the waitress only offers a sour look in her face as some sort of apology.
After the whole chicken fiasco a couple of months ago, I had made friends with the manager Fernando at this branch so asked to speak to him- but was abruptly informed that he ‘walked out’ 2 weeks ago… Considering the customer service levels at this branch, I cant say im surprised! I can only assume he gave up hope and moved to greener pastures!
As my form of ‘compensation,’ after mentioning that I will review this restaurant experience.. I was ‘treated’ to a lucky scratch card, as form of apology. Pretty sure I saw every diner receive this! I dont expect any special compensation- but dont lie to a regular customer either! (They do not know I am a blogger- they assumed a trip advisor or similar review).
Whilst I cannot say all branches are like this- I can safely say that this blog can inform you with plenty of ways to stretch your £20 and enjoy a better payday Friday!
