Travelling solo in South East Asia is always fun, plenty of markets to feast your way through so you can avoid dining alone in a restaurant! But I made a great friend in Bangkok and we decided to try the dinner cruise experience.
You basically arrive at a mall (River City Shopping Complex) and then you need to find the right cruise office to collect your sticker and be given your gate number- it does get busy and can be a bit confusing so do get there early!
Eventually we were on the boat, and despite being a very last minute booking- I was made a special vegetarian meal. I was really appreciative- service in Thailand is fantastic and they really go the extra mile.
The boat itself was lovely, set over 2 floors it was modern, clean and really nice to look at. There was a huge all you can eat buffet with a variety of Thai and International dishes. I queued up early and got some veggie salads and fries before the meat eaters mixed it all in! The queues were pretty long!
The food was average, the desserts were quite nice too. Alcohol was not too expensive, but was not included in ticket price.
The views were not that great- I thought we would have stunning views of the temples all lit up at night. Wat Arun is meant to be the really delight- but there were tall building and trees blocking the view, it was just a bit underwhelming!
The live music started, and whilst the singer had a pretty rubbish voice- she managed to get people in the mood for a dance and some fun! She shouted a bit much but she played a few good numbers which appealed to a large international audience.
I love being near or on the water, so even though I thought the food and views were not great- I still enjoyed myself. It is well organised and service is brilliant.
I probably wouldn’t do it again, but there are plenty of worse ways to spend an evening- and I’m glad I tried it!
Have you had a good/bad dinner on a boat experience?
