Clos Maggiore is a gorgeous French restaurant in Covent Garden. Orange blossoms fill the conservatory room and this is a wonderful place to propose or celebrate a romantic occasion. Quote from Forbes: “It’s no surprise Clos Maggiore is consistently voted one of London’s most romantic restaurants”
Before I go any further in this post- let me share an important tip- if you are going here for the romance you only want to sit in the conservatory. So be sure to check when you reserve and book well in advance (I booked 8 months ago!) Organisation is key here, Hardens, the Independent online and many other features have voted this the most romantic restaurant in London, some have said ‘most romantic spot’ in the UK.. and even most romantic restaurant in the world!
The surroundings are beautiful, log fire burning, fairy lights are twinkling and the orange blossoms look truly fantastic. The service was exemplary and despite being in a very posh type of atmosphere the waiters were bubbly, cheerful and chatty!
You will have seen many pictures of this delightful restaurant, but to sit in the room and dine there is a special and unique experience. It is truly magnificent, and I feel privileged to have had this amazing experience.
Munch on the delicious parmesan puffs whilst you peruse the wine list. The list is literally a whole book! It takes so long to go through, it might be easier to choose the wine pairing menu! The ingredients are sourced from the UK, and the restaurant works with 30 of the country’s finest wine merchants as well.
I preferred the desserts on the A la carte to decided against the vegetarian tasting menu (although the menu looked great!)
For starters I went for the vegetarian soup with truffle & pine nuts. And for the mains I had the fresh rolled parpadella with grated fresh truffle. My boyfriend had the same main but the rolled aubergine starter.
The soup was heartwarming and the taste of truffle with the pine nuts was simply divine! The smoked aubergine starter was presented beautifully- but it tasted very bland aside from a smoky aubergine taste which we didnt really like.
I thought the main was extremely filling and really tasty! I love how the waitress comes to grate the truffle in front of us wearing her white gloves! Whilst I thought it was extremely tasty- this is a very Italian/pasta based dish. Surely French cuisine can have one vegetarian dish? There was a tart as another option- but I think they can make the vegetarian menu a bit more French as well. I love pasta though and it tasted great!
For dessert we has the 2 person sharing ‘Clos Maggiore Caramelised Valhrona Chocolate Sensation’.. And sensational it was! Burnt honey ice cream, armagnac jelly.. Chocolate heaven. This truly was the highlight of the entire meal! You must have a dessert here! Absolutely superb!!
What is your favourite romantic restaurant?
